Snow skin mooncakes
It was Mooncake Festival yesterday, also known as the Mid-autumn Festival or zhōngqiū jié
(source:wikipedia) Mandarin Level : FAIL or Lantern Festival. The festival is held on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese calendar, which is in September or early October in the Gregorian calendar. This year, 2012, it falls on the 30th of September.
Did nothing special yesterday :( But... I had the chance to learn how to make "Snow skin Mooncakes" the day before aka Saturday! :D
Seriously, these are the only things you need
*plus the filling (of your choice)

Green and red food colouring + banana essence
Step 1 : Mix the white packets together
*We used a pre-mix, very convenient, just follow the instrustions printed

Tadahhhh!!!! 3 colours :D
Then, let it "run" for 25 minutes and cover it with a damp cloth
Durian paste, because the other fillings are all sold out :(
*You can add any nuts or other ingredients according to your preference

**Note to self : get ingredients earlier next time
Weigh them one by one so that you get a constant size
Before and after; ugly shape and then perfect rounded balls
After being set aside, you can start making snow skin mooncakes! :D
Put the dough in between a plastic sheet and flatten it out using a rolling pin
Place the flattened "skin" on your palm, and add the filling in the center, and wrap it up
Then, roll it a little into a ball, and put it into the mould >>>>> press it and that's what you get :D
Put the "ball" into the mould, and press hard
*Before this, brush the insides of the mould so that it won't stick to the walls

My first masterpiece! :D

This Hello Kitty-shaped mooncake is made specially for Alisha Ho

After this stage, you can put them in the fridge and serve when chilled :D no need for any baking! ;)
Tadah!!! This is what you will get ;)
You can add 'spots' of colours... to make.....
A multi-coloured mooncake! :D
See? Try any variation to get different results
